Siegfried Mureșan about the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU: "Let's prepare for the start of negotiations at the end of June"
The chance that the official accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union will officially begin in June is very high. MEP Siegfried Mureșan said about it in an exclusive interview for Radio Moldova. The official claims that the Republic of Moldova has demonstrated remarkable progress and very good speed on the reforms started, and at this stage the explanatory screening process takes places which is a preparation for the accession negotiations.
"I think the chance that these negotiations will start in June is very high. In the event that it doesn't start in June, obviously, to answer your question directly, obviously there's a chance that these negotiations will start in the second part of the year, but that's Plan B, plan A is for the negotiations to start in June, and for that there is political will in the European Parliament, at the level of the European Commission and obviously at the level of the authorities in Chisinau. I say let's prepare for the start of negotiations at the end of June. A decision is still needed, which I think will be taken in June, which is basically the mandate to start negotiations and the decision when exactly to start these negotiations," the official said.
