National Army received a batch of assistance from the US Government
A batch of military and non-lethal defense equipment was received on Saturday morning by the Ministry of Defense.
According to a press release from the ministry, the aid was delivered by the US Government, in the context of the "Peace Shield" exercise.
The shipment was delivered by air with the North Carolina Air National Guard's US C-17 cargo ship.
"Thirty-five members of the North Carolina Guard and the US Air Force in Europe will collaborate with the Ministries of the Republic of Moldova to implement response tactics aimed at ensuring the best protection of Moldovan citizens in the event of civil emergencies," reads a press release from the US Embassy in Chisinau.
We remind that the "Peace Shield 2024" exercise has been carried out since 2009. It aims to evaluate the subunits of the National Army in accordance with the Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC), which is a mandatory condition for participation in international peacekeeping operations.
According to the US State Department, since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova has benefited from a funding of about 75 million US dollars, granted by the US in order to strengthen its defense capabilities.
The US remains Moldova's largest single-country donor, with more than $774 million in economic, security, defense, and humanitarian aid since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, to support the Republic of Moldova in managing the impact of the war.
