Jean-Louis Bourlange Advocates French Weapons for Ukraine Amidst Russia Tensions

Chairman of the French Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Jean-Louis Bourlange, has urged authorities to grant Ukraine permission to utilise French weaponry on Russian soil, as reported by Ukrainskaia Pravda.

Bourlange emphasised the legal legitimacy of such action, asserting that it would rectify the imbalance between the aggressor and the victim. He referenced Great Britain's precedent, which allowed Ukrainian forces to deploy their armaments against Russia.

Furthermore, Bourlange stressed that neither France nor Ukraine's other Western allies seek confrontation with Russia. He clarified that the intention is not intervention in the theatre of war but the removal of an unjustified constraint.

Since the onset of Russia's large-scale invasion, Ukraine has faced consistent restrictions in utilising weaponry provided by Western nations to target Russian territory. External partners maintain that the arms are supplied for defensive purposes.

Recent developments indicate a shift in this stance. For instance, following a visit to Kiev, British Foreign Minister David Cameron affirmed Ukraine's right to employ British weapons against Russia. Similarly, during a visit to Kiev in May, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken emphasised Ukraine's autonomy in its approach to warfare while cautioning against strikes on Russia.

Meanwhile, a group of German parliamentarians propose that European Union countries, as NATO members, defend Ukrainian airspace, even from within the North Atlantic Alliance's territory. They cite Israel's precedent, where various nations assisted in repelling an Iranian aerial attack, as evidence that NATO involvement would not escalate the conflict.

In related news, shortly after the launch, Iran announced the cessation of its attack on Israel. World leaders have reacted to Iran's assault on Israel.
