China School Stabbing: 2 Dead, 10 Injured
Two people were killed and ten others injured in a knife attack at a primary school in Guixi City, eastern China's Jiangxi Province, on Monday lunchtime, according to local authorities cited by Xinhua.
Six of the injured sustained minor injuries while attempting to intervene in the attack, local public security officials reported. Police arrested a 45-year-old woman suspect, identified as Pan, and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Mass attacks are rare in China, a country that prohibits its citizens from owning firearms. However, there has been a recent surge in knife attacks. In early May, a knife attack at a hospital in Yunnan Province (southwest China) left two people dead and 21 injured.
In August 2023, also in Yunnan, a man with a history of mental illness carried out a knife attack that resulted in two fatalities and seven injuries.
