Ambassador of Denmark: Accession to the EU, the only option for the Republic of Moldova
Joining the European Union (EU) is the only option that the Republic of Moldova has now, when the Russian Federation tends to restore its empire, and our country can very easily become the next victim, if Ukraine is not helped and loses the war. The statement belongs to the ambassador of Denmark to the Republic of Moldova, Soren Jensen, and was made on the "Diplomatic Dimension" show on Moldova 1 TV.
The diplomat is confident that the EU accession negotiations will start soon. The ambassador emphasized that both the government in Chisinau and the majority of citizens understand that the future of the Republic of Moldova is in Europe. "The goal is to be part of this family that has the same values, where economic benefits can be provided and freedom can be provided. And I think that this shows very well the benefits of joining a block of countries, such as the European ones, which have the same values that Moldova wants to have, to be free", declared Soren Jensen.
The diplomat also emphasized that the Kingdom of Denmark will continue to support, including through military assistance, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova, through budgetary and humanitarian assistance, to face the shocks of the Russian military invasion.
"Now, in the short term, an important thing is to make sure that the rule of law is integrated without corruption, because without having a clean judicial system it is very difficult to attract investments", said Soren Jensen.
The Kingdom of Denmark is one of the main contributors to assistance to Ukraine, providing 5.5 billion euros over the past two years. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Denmark has also increased its support for the Republic of Moldova, providing assistance in managing the refugee crisis and strengthening economic, financial, energy and security resilience.
