The economy of the Republic of Moldova will grow in the coming years, World Bank forecasts

The World Bank revised upward the economic prospects of the Republic of Moldova for this year. At the same time, the "global economic outlook" report reveals that our country's economy was among the most affected among the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

The World Bank forecasts the growth of the economy of the Republic of Moldova by 1.6% in 2023, after its report from last June predicted a recession of 1.1 percent. However, the economy of the Republic of Moldova will register among the lowest growths this year, compared to the countries in the region. Instead, in 2024, the economy of the Republic of Moldova will register a more robust growth - by 4.2% and will be among the leaders in this regard among the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, according to the report. The World Bank estimates that in 2022 the economy of the Republic of Moldova decreased by 1.5%, being among the most affected in the region after those of Ukraine, Belarus and the Russian Federation. In contrast, Georgia and Armenia recorded economic growth of approximately 10% each. We remind you that in the first nine months of last year, the Gross Domestic Product of the Republic of Moldova amounted to approximately 200 billion lei and decreased, in real terms, by 4% compared to the same period of the previous year. For the current year, the Government forecasts a growth of the economy by 2%.
