Mallorca Restaurant Collapse Leaves Several Dead, Many Injured
At least four people died and at least 12 others were injured after a roof collapsed on a two-story building on the Spanish island of Mallorca on Thursday.
Rescue workers confirmed the fatalities, according to AFP.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening at a restaurant in the Playa de Palma area, south of Palma de Mallorca, a popular tourist destination in the Mediterranean. Local media reported that between 12 and 14 people sustained injuries of varying severity following the collapse of the building's roof.
As the peak tourist season gets underway, the restaurant was frequented by foreign tourists at the time of the incident. Multiple fire crews, police officers from Palma, and ambulances responded to the scene, according to local sources.
The Balearic Islands, known for their pristine waters and beaches, are Spain's second most popular tourist destination after Catalonia. These islands attracted over 14 million tourists in 2022, according to official data.
