Nistru River Levels Drop as Ukraine Boosts Hydropower

The water level of the Nistru River in Ukraine's Chernivtsi region is declining due to increased water releases from the Novodnistrovsk Hydroelectric Power Plant to boost energy production.

Ukrhidroenergo, the Ukrainian state-owned company managing the dam, confirmed this information to Ukrainian media.

"We have increased water discharge by 30% to augment production," a Ukrhidroenergo representative stated.

Recent photographs circulating in Ukrainian media showed the Nistru River drying up near the town of Hotin in the Chernivtsi region. In response, the Moldovan Ministry of Environment and the Moldovan Water Agency issued a statement. The authorities assured the public that the Moldovan section of the Nistru River will not face water scarcity. Water released from the Nistru Reservoir is sufficient to fulfil the needs of both the population and the aquatic ecosystems.
