Countering Hybrid Threats: US Assistance in Moldova's Stability
In the past two years, American authorities have not perceived any military threats against the Republic of Moldova.
Concurrently, the country has been repeatedly targeted by hybrid attacks launched by the Russian Federation, as stated by the US Ambassador to Chișinău, Kent Logsdon, in an interview for TV8. Additionally, the diplomat highlighted that the American authorities have supported Chișinău in countering attempts to destabilise the Republic of Moldova initiated from outside the country in February 2023.
Authorities in Chișinău have recently warned that the Republic of Moldova is facing the full spectrum of hybrid warfare launched by the Russian Federation. During this period, various attempts at destabilisation in the Republic of Moldova have been observed, including illegal financing of various parties and attempts to influence voters through various methods and schemes.
According to the diplomat, at that time, the American services shared the information they had and supported the authorities in Chișinău in facing the challenges. Furthermore, the ambassador emphasised that "cybersecurity and free media are truly important aspects that people must defend."
Recently, Kent Logsdon concluded his tenure as Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Moldova. Kelly Adams-Smith will assume the leadership of the US Embassy in Chișinău, having been nominated for this position by US President Joe Biden on March 14. Currently, Kelly Adams-Smith serves as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Mission to the European Union.
