90 states, including the Republic of Moldova, will participate in the Swiss Peace Summit for Ukraine
90 states and organizations, including the Republic of Moldova, will participate in the Global Peace Summit for Ukraine that will take place in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on June 15-16. This was announced by the President of Switzerland, Viola Amherd, in a press conference. According to the official, the event will be attended by heads of state and government from all continents. Summit participants will address issues of international concern - such as nuclear and food security, freedom of navigation and humanitarian issues. We remind that Russia was not invited to the summit.
“The conference will take place in Bürgenstock next weekend. To date, 90 countries have registered, half of them from Europe and North America, the other half from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The fact that so many countries are participating with high-level delegations shows that Switzerland's initiative has been properly evaluated," said Amherd.
According to the Swiss president, the Bürgenstock conference is intended to "initiate a broad process aimed at establishing a durable and sustainable peace in Ukraine and thus create the conditions for a future peace summit with the participation of Russia. This will only be possible if countries work together. The next weekend will be dedicated to finding a common denominator between countries for these efforts and making concrete progress in individual cases," she added.
The President of Switzerland emphasized that the participants of the Peace Summit seek to find ways to achieve "comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine, based on international law, in accordance with the UN Charter."
"We want to develop a common understanding of possible frameworks to achieve this goal. And we want to draw together a road map of how both sides can be involved in the future peace process. The conference will focus on topics of global interest. These are nuclear security, food security and humanitarian issues,” she said.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said there is a hysterical atmosphere in Moscow as the Peace Summit approaches because at stake is the Russian myth of dividing the world into Europe and America supporting Ukraine and the rest of the world supporting Russia. According to the diplomat, Ukraine together with its allies will prevail over Russia because most of the world supports the UN Charter and international law.
The Ukrainian formula for peace is a diplomatic mechanism offered by Kiev to achieve a just end to the war started by Russia.
