Union of Fine Artists of the Republic of Moldova designates the winners of the national contemporary art salon
The Union of Fine Artists of the Republic of Moldova has announced the winners of the National Contemporary Art Salon, the final exhibition-competition of 2024. Organized by the Union of Plastic Artists of the Republic of Moldova, this event highlights the engagement of artists in the creative process and their desire to enhance the world through art.
The sculpture award was given to Iurie Platon, a renowned artist based in Germany who actively participates in exhibitions and sculpture camps in his homeland.
"I believe it’s wonderful that Iurie’s work is featured in this exhibition. It embodies a modern and contemporary vision that merges plastic, figurative, and geometric forms”, said fine artist Liliana Platon.
The decorative art prize was awarded to Ștefan Bîlba for his work titled "The Lone Shepherd," made of metal and wood. He explained, "The Lone Shepherd represents our nation, family, people, and faith. - How was the year for you? -This year has been rich for me; I had exhibitions abroad and participated in various international camps, including a recent trip to Vienna. We continue to work, create, and develop culture and art in the Republic of Moldova."
Valeriu Herța received a diploma of merit for graphics for his work titled "Wings," which he described as representing "an abstract flight of the creative spirit in this space," he used a technique which he invented.
In other categories, the prize for painting was awarded to Vladimir Frumusachi; the excellence award went to Gheorghe Șoitu; Dumitru Lungu won for graphics; and Vladimir Palamarciuc received a jury distinction.
"I have been active in the fine arts for many years, striving to uphold standards and present works that meet expectations. This event is a celebration for me", said Palamarciuc.
All 111 works presented by various artists successfully passed the jury's review.
"Congratulations to my colleagues for the courage and inspiration they demonstrated throughout the year. This represents a summary of the Union’s activities. How is this summary? It is positive; I have observed beautiful transformations and an extraordinary dynamic. The works have become more professional, with new techniques and experimentation being embraced", said Ludmila Furdui, president of the jury.
For over three decades, the most significant exhibition at year’s end was called “Autumnala.” Since 2023, this event has been recognized as the “National Salon of Contemporary Art.” This exhibition aimed to synchronize with colleagues in Romania and create a national contemporary art salon. Florina Breazu, president of the UAP, concluded, "In a community where the future is uncertain, creation is indeed a force and an affirmation of the artist—both for themselves and the community—illustrating that art is what saves our soul."
The prizes awarded by the Ministry of Culture range from six thousand to thirteen thousand lei, and the National Contemporary Art Salon is open for public viewing.
