According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNCHR), since the beginning of the war, 6,952 civilians have died and 11,144 others have been injured. This was announced by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo in New York at a meeting of the UN Security Council, which is looking into the situation in Ukraine caused by Putin's war. The secretary pointed out that the real numbers are probably much higher, and the war in Ukraine is already a year old, but there is no end in sight to the fighting and suffering.

At the same time, UNHCR has documented more than 90 cases of sexual violence related to the Russian invasion as a method of torture in places of detention and rape, including gang rape, in Russian-occupied areas.
