Russian strike against Poltava injures 22, including children
Russia carried out an attack on the city of Poltava on June 17, hitting a civilian infrastructure site, Governor Filip Pronin reported, The Kyiv Independent reports.
At least nine people were injured in the attack, but no fatalities were reported at around 2 p.m. local time, Pronin said.
The number of injured was 12 at of around 4:30 p.m. local time. Two children are among the victims, according to Pronin. At least three people were hospitalized.
The regional prosecutor's office reported the number of casualties rose to 16, while six people were hospitalized at around 7:30 p.m. local time.
At least 22 people, including three children, have sought medical care following the strike, Pronin said at around 9:30 p.m. local time. One child and eight adults were hospitalized.
Russian forces could launch the strike with a Kh-59 cruise missile, the prosecutor's office said.
Several multi-story buildings have been reportedly damaged. The governor previously said that some people may be trapped under the rubble.
The attack also damaged power lines in the region. Around 53,000 civilian and 2,400 industrial customers are without power, according to Pronin.
Poltava Oblast lies in the central-eastern part of Ukraine.
