Ex-prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo, the candidate of the socialists for the presidency

The Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) proposes the former general prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo for the position of president of the Republic of Moldova. This was announced by the leader of the Socialists, Igor Dodon, during a briefing. Dodon called on the opposition parties to support Stoianoglo in the presidential elections.

"Alexandr Stoianoglo possesses both professional authority, and modesty, and civic courage, and principles - all qualities for a president of a country", declared Igor Dodon.

The Socialists called on the opposition parties to support Stoianoglo in the presidential race. "The time has come to show political maturity, all together," said Dodon. The former general prosecutor said he accepted the PSRM proposal because of " injustice and abuse" in the country.

"Now there is no place for pride and ambition, there is only responsibility," Stoianoglo said.

We remind you that Alexandr Stoianoglo, appointed general prosecutor in November 2019, was detained two years later, being investigated in several files, and subsequently suspended from his position.

Former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo is accused of fake statements, passive corruption, illicit enrichment and abuse of office for allegedly helping the controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon to be released from detention.

On September 26, President Maia Sandu signed the decree releasing him from office, and the Superior Council of Prosecutors announced yesterday the launch of a new competition for the position of general prosecutor.

We remind you that on October 20, presidential elections and the referendum on EU accession will take place. The people will choose their future president of the country, for a 4-year term.
