The Republic of Moldova invests in agriculture: Five irrigation systems will be functional as of 2025
Currently, in the Republic of Moldova, three large projects are being implemented to repair irrigation systems for agriculture, said the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea. According to him, our country has 88 irrigation systems, of which only 24 are functional.
"It is about Ștefan Vodă, Etulia, Alexandru Ioan Cuza and Briceni. We are finalizing the discussion process and the feasibility study on two more in Criuleni and the banks of the Prut, two more irrigation systems. So, in all, in 2025 there will be five centralized irrigation systems in operation that will cover, in total, more than 10 thousand hectares with irrigation. But, at the same time, we must understand that together with scientists we must develop a regionalization program of the Republic of Moldova on the types of crops and the science institutes of the Republic of Moldova that are subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture must come up with very clear recommendations on types of crops that can be grown in each region of the Republic of Moldova".
We remind you that at the end of last year, Parliament ratified a loan agreement from the EBRD worth 55 million dollars for agriculture development. Of this amount, 25 million dollars will be invested in the repair of primary and secondary irrigation infrastructure.
