Top leadership of the country sent congratulatory messages to judoka Denis Vieru for the medal in Paris
After the Moldovan judoka Denis Vieru won the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the top leadership of the country sent congratulatory messages, noting that the Republic of Moldova is proud of the medal.
"We have the first medal since the Olympic Games! Congratulations on the bronze in judo, Denis Vieru! We are proud of your perseverance and passion", wrote the president Maia Sandu, on the Facebook page.
"Judoka Denis Vieru brings the first medal for the Republic of Moldova at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Congratulations, Denis! Your success fills us with pride and joy. We hold our fists for our athletes who are going to compete and wait for them at home with medals and beautiful results", reads the message posted by Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

In the small final, Vieru defeated the Frenchman Walide Khyar by the waza-ari.
