Moldovans urged to avoid travel or to leave Russia's Kursk region due to security risks
The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Russian Federation recommends that Moldovan citizens refrain from traveling to the Kursk region, due to security risks. Also, the Embassy recommends the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who are in this region, to leave it.
“Please be vigilant and follow the instructions of the relevant authorities to ensure your personal safety. The embassy continues to follow the evolution of the situation in the Kursk region", announced the diplomacy of our country in Moscow.
In case of emergency, Moldovans can call the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Russian Federation at: +7 929 964-90-79.
We remind that the Russian authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Kursk region, amid the continuation of the cross-border attack by Ukrainian troops, in the largest incursion into Russian territory since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. According to Russian officials, at least five civilians were killed and 31 wounded. President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of launching a major provocation and indiscriminately bombing civilian targets.
In the context of the escalation of the situation in this region, where there is a logistic hub for transporting gas from Russia, including the Transnistrian region and Europe, through Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy started the procedure for establishing an early alert state on the natural gas market of the Republic of Moldova. Minister Victor Parlicov declared that for now"there is no imminent risk of stopping the supply of gas for the left bank", but Chisinau needs "reaction time, to manage the situation".
The Commission for Exceptional Situations (CSE) has 12 hours to convene in order to examine the Ministry's proposal.
