Ukraine received a first installment of 3 billion euros of EU aid for 2023

Ukraine received a first installment of 3 billion euros from the 18 billion package provided by the European Union for 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Tuesday, Agerpres reports, citing AFP.

"Ukraine has received the first €3 billion of the new €18 billion macro-financial program" to support the Ukrainian economy, Volodymyr Zelenskiy tweeted, thanking European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the 27 for the "solid support" granted to Kiev, almost 11 months after the beginning of the Russian invasion. The EU approved this new financial aid for Ukraine in mid-December, after fierce discussions between member states. Specifically, the Europeans committed to giving Ukraine 1.5 billion euros per month during 2023 to finance its public expenses. The support takes the form of 35-year zero-interest loans with the possibility of debt cancellation.
