Ukrainian forces target fuel-laden ferry at Russian port

Ukrainian armed forces reportedly struck a fuel-laden ferry at the "Caucasus" port in southern Russia.

The incident resulted in a large fire, producing a massive cloud of smoke visible from afar. According to Russian sources, the attack was carried out using a cruise missile, possibly a Storm Shadow or Neptune, though this information has not been officially confirmed.

Traffic on the Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia to the Russian-occupied Crimea region of Ukraine, was temporarily halted, with emergency teams working on-site to contain the fire, according to the BBC.

Local Telegram channels shared photos and videos showing a large plume of smoke rising above the "Caucasus" port.

The rail ferry at Kavkaz port, targeted by Ukraine, was reportedly carrying 30 fuel tanks. "Emergency and special services are on-site. The extent of the fire and details about casualties are being assessed," local authorities reported.

Ukraine has not commented on the reports of this attack.

In July, Ukrainian forces carried out several strikes on the "Caucasus" port, resulting in damage to the rail ferry "Slavyanin." British military intelligence reported that "Slavyanin" remained the only ferry on this route and was restored to service after the previous two were damaged by Ukrainian strikes on May 29.
