Tragic loss: Child dies from medication reaction in Moldova

A 13-year-old child from the Căușeni district, who had been diagnosed with severe intellectual disability, has passed away in the hospital.

The cause of death was determined to be urinary retention, resulting from an adverse reaction to medication.

The Ministry of Health has reported that the minor was initially admitted to the Căușeni District Hospital for treatment of bronchopneumonia. Following his discharge, the family observed a deterioration in his health and subsequently returned him to the same hospital on September 2nd. On that same day, after an evaluation by a psychiatrist, the child was transferred to the Clinical Psychiatry Hospital in Codru.

Upon admission to the inpatient unit, the patient was diagnosed with urinary retention attributed to a toxic reaction to medication. He was promptly admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and received medication. However, his overall condition continued to decline, with the symptoms of intoxication progressing and ultimately leading to multiple organ failure, the Ministry stated.

The child tragically passed away on September 9th due to complications arising from his condition.
