New warning system for emergencies in the Republic of Moldova could be called "Mold-alert"
The warning system, which will allow the dissemination of warning messages to the population in case of extreme weather phenomena, floods, but also other situations that endanger the life and health of citizens, could be called "Mold-alert". This was announced by the head of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU), Alexandru Oprea, in the " Dimineata cu Radio Moldova”. According to him, the alert system will be similar to that of all EU states, and in the Republic of Moldova it will become functional in 2026.
"We intend to call it 'Mold-alert.' The messages that will come to the phone will not use SMS technology, but will be messages to all users at the same time. Estimates show us that in the 5G coverage on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, all subscribers could be notified from 8 to 10 seconds. We are talking about a very efficient system and the messages that will come will contain different information, including we propose to send recommendations for the citizens", says Alexandru Oprea.
The head of the IGSU stated that once the alert system is operational, the authorities will launch an information campaign for citizens, and the messages that will be sent will be prepared ahead of time.
"In this system we want to connect several institutions so that it becomes truly universal. So, extreme weather phenomena will be notified by SHS, events related to public order will be notified by colleagues from the police, dangerous events related to the environment by specialized institutions. So, depending on the event, we can use the same system for all types of risk", concluded Alexandru Oprea.
We remind that the total value of the project is estimated at over 440 thousand euros, and 92 percent of the amount will be granted by the European partners.
The spokeswoman of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) of the MAI, Liliana Pușcașu, told Radio Moldova that the project is at the feasibility study stage.
At this stage, according to the IGSU representative, "measures are being taken to contract the companies, to know which are the most performing technologies".
