Congratulatory messages for the Republic of Moldova following preliminary election results
After the publication of the preliminary results by the Central Electoral Commission, several officials sent congratulatory messages to the Republic of Moldova. The first message came from the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu.
"I wholeheartedly congratulate the Moldovan people and Maia Sandu on this significant victory! Moldovans from around the world made history today. They reaffirmed not only their courage but also their unwavering confidence in their European future. They fought valiantly against an infernal machine orchestrated by Russia, which sought to undermine democracy through large-scale vote-buying. Maia Sandu's victory in the second round of the presidential elections is clear evidence of the Moldovan people's determination to defend their democracy and ensure their path towards joining the European Union," wrote Marcel Ciolacu.
He added, "I will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in its journey to where it rightfully belongs—alongside Romania in the European Union."
MEP Siegfried Muresan also addressed a message to Moldova: "Russia lost, despite its massive involvement." "Maia Sandu will win the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova. This is beneficial for Moldova, and it is important for Romania and for the entire free world. Russia has lost, despite its significant interference, and will likely attempt to influence future elections, not only in Moldova. We must always be prepared to defend democracy," said Siegfried Muresan.
The President of the European Commission also congratulated Maia Sandu on her victory: "Congratulations to Maia Sandu for tonight's victory. It requires a rare kind of strength to overcome the challenges you faced in this election. I look forward to continuing to work towards a European future for the Republic of Moldova and its people," stated the President of the European Commission.
In a message from the President of France, Emmanuel Macron expressed ongoing support for Moldova: "I would like to congratulate Maia Sandu on her re-election as President of the Republic of Moldova. Democracy has triumphed in the face of all interference and manipulation. France will continue to stand with Moldova on its European path," wrote President Macron.
Additionally, the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, remarked: "Despite Russia's aggressive and widespread intervention in the Moldovan presidential elections, Maia Sandu has defeated what was likely Moscow's favored candidate. We hope this trend continues in the coming days and months in other countries as well."
