Andrei Spînu steps down from Government and PAS. Reactions

Andrei Spînu, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, has announced his retirement from both the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). This decision follows his experience as a target of relentless attacks that he describes as unfair and unsubstantiated. He made the announcement via his Telegram page.

Despite facing a defamation campaign, Spînu emphasized his commitment to working tirelessly for the country's interests. "I am at peace. I know what I am leaving behind, and I am confident that no one will be able to challenge the integrity of my actions," he stated.

Spînu expressed that his choice to step down from his position and leave PAS is motivated by a desire for the public discourse to refocus on critical issues facing the Republic of Moldova, particularly justice, which he considers a top priority.

He remarked, "As long as fake topics dominate the public space, organized criminal groups, corruption, and those representing foreign interests will be allowed to pursue their agendas. We witnessed this in the recent elections."

Anatol Țăranu: Andrei Spînu's withdrawal, an expected decision in the context of government reshuffles

The political commentator Anatol Țăranu declared that the withdrawal of Andrei Spînu from the Government and from PAS was an expected step, which is part of the promises made by President Maia Sandu and in the recent statements of Prime Minister Dorin Recean regarding government reshuffles.

"The announcement made by Mr. Spînu that he is withdrawing from the Government and the PAS Party was expected, even if it came with a certain delay, affecting the image of PAS and Maia Sandu team. This move meets the promises made by Maia Sandu after winning the mandate and to Prime Minister Recean's statements about reshuffles. It remains to be seen who the new members of the government will be and whether they meet society's expectations regarding a common front of pro-European forces in the perspective of the parliamentary elections", said Anatol Țăranu.

Ion Tăbîrță: The withdrawal of Andrei Spînu, a necessary step for the government's image

Political analyst Ion Tăbîrță commented on the withdrawal of Andrei Spînu from the Government and from the Action and Solidarity Party, considering it a logical and necessary decision to improve the image of the ruling party. Tăbîrță emphasizes that Spînu's image was one of the most contested in society and in the public space.

"Ultimately, it is an action in the spirit of what has been discussed and expected lately from the current ruling party, even more so since President Maia Sandu herself has recognized the need for government reshuffles. The image of Mr. Spînu was one of the most contested. If this decision was a personal one, it is an act of political maturity and responsibility. If it was imposed, then it was a complicated but necessary decision for PAS," declared Ion Tăbîrță.

Igor Grosu: "Thank you, Andrei Spînu, for everything you have done".

The Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, reacted to the announcement of the withdrawal of Andrei Spînu from the Government and the Action and Solidarity Party. Grosu highlighted Spînu's contribution to the party's successes and to making difficult decisions in the Government, emphasizing that they were necessary to maintain the European direction of the Republic of Moldova.

"Thank you, Andrei Spînu, for everything you have done both within the Action and Solidarity Party and at the Government. You had to make tough decisions and you didn't shy away from responsibility. But in the end we managed to take Moldova in the direction we set out for ourselves - in the big European family", Igor Grosu said.
