National afforestation campaign started in the Republic of Moldova
This year's afforestation campaign started today. Thus, more than 26 million saplings will be planted on an area of 4000 hectares in 160 localities in the country. In the period 2023-2032, the Republic of Moldova is carrying out the National Forest Extension and Rehabilitation Program (PNERP), an initiative of the President of the Republic of Moldova, Mrs. Maia Sandu, which will bring no less than 145,000 ha of planted and rehabilitated forests.
In September, the Government signed a financing agreement with the European Investment Bank in the amount of 200 million euros, to expand the National Afforestation Program, said the Minister of the Environment, Sergiu Lazarencu.
The main objective of this agreement is to plant, in the next 4 years, 63 thousand hectares of forests. We remind you that, in the first two years of the National Afforestation Program, more than 11 thousand hectares were planted, with the Government allocating 300 million lei in this regard.
The Republic of Moldova has the lowest rate in Europe, and by implementing such programs, the area of forests in our country will increase considerably.
