ANRE postpones the meeting at which it was to decide on the new gas tariff
The National Energy Regulatory Agency postponed today's meeting, November 27, during which the new gas tariff was to be examined and approved based on the request submitted by S.A. "Moldovagaz" for Friday, November 29, at 10:00. According to the institution, ANRE representatives need to examine and analyze "a large volume of information related to the project to adjust regulated prices for the supply of natural gas".
Also, Parliament will organize public hearings on the situation in the energy sector next week. The initiative was announced on November 27 by the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance, Radu Marian, a day after Moldovagaz requested an increase in the tariff paid by household consumers for natural gas consumed by more than four lei. During the hearings, Marian claims, the reasons that led to this request will also be analyzed.
We remind you that S.A. "Moldovagaz" requested the National Energy Regulatory Agency to approve the tariff increase of 17 lei and 46 bani including VAT, starting with December 1. Currently, it is 13 lei and 12 bani. Moldovagaz motivates the request for tariff adjustment by increasing the purchase price by seven percent. More precisely, it is an average price of over 520 dollars for one thousand cubic meters.
The request came a day after the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, had a meeting with the President of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, in St. Petersburg, where they discussed natural gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova under the existing contract after January 1, especially if the transit through Ukraine is interrupted.
The announcement contradicted recent statements made by Prime Minister Dorin Recean during a government meeting, where he mentioned that citizens will not pay higher tariffs for natural gas and electricity this season. ANRE will meet in session at 10:00 to decide on the new natural gas tariff.
