Moldova's September salary trends: What you need to know
In September, the average gross monthly salary in public institutions and companies with four or more employees was approximately 13,500 lei, according to recent data provided by the National Institute of Statistics. Three out of four employees earned more than seven thousand lei.
Of the total number of employees, 5.4% earned five thousand lei, over 20% had salaries between five and seven thousand lei, 46.6% earned between seven and fifteen thousand lei, and 27.5% earned more than fifteen thousand lei.
Compared to September 2023, the proportion of employees earning five thousand lei or less decreased by 9.2 percentage points, while the proportion of those earning over ten thousand lei increased by 8.6 percentage points.
The lowest wages were paid to employees in the fields of administrative services, real estate transactions, and agriculture.
In contrast, higher salaries were earned by those working in information and communication, the financial and insurance sectors, public administration and defense, and mandatory social insurance.
In the third quarter of 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova reported an increase in average monthly earnings across the real sector and public institutions. The average gross monthly salary reached 14,116.8 lei, marking a 14.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023, and a modest 0.3% rise compared to the second quarter of 2024. When adjusted for inflation, the real earnings index increased by 8.7%, indicating a significant improvement in purchasing power. The average number of employees also grew by 0.6% compared to the third quarter of 2023, signaling stable labor market conditions. These figures highlight the steady wage growth and employment trends in Moldova, providing important context for understanding the broader economic landscape.
