Russia neutralizes drone attacks targeting key regions overnight

Several regions in Russia were targeted by drone attacks overnight from Thursday to Friday, January 24. According to authorities, the drones were intercepted and neutralized by air defense and electronic warfare systems, reports DW.

The governor of the Ryazan region, Pavel Malkov, announced on his Telegram channel that the drones were destroyed, and no casualties were reported in the incident. “The material damage is under assessment,” he added. Residents of Ryazan reported hearing more than 20 explosions, and authorities later confirmed that the attack targeted a local refinery.

Bryansk Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz also reported drone attacks. According to the Telegram channel Mash, the drones attempted to strike the “Kremni” plant in Bryansk, with debris from a destroyed drone falling nearby.

In the city of Kursk, Mayor Igor Kutsak announced that a drone was shot down, and its debris damaged four houses. “All emergency services are on-site. A detailed inspection will be conducted in the morning to assess the damage,” he added.

In the Tula region, Governor Dmitri Milyaev reported that a drone was destroyed, causing a fire when it crashed into an area of dry vegetation.

During the night, drone attack alarms were issued in the Saratov, Tatarstan, and Samara regions. In Saratov, drones targeted a refinery in Engels, where locals reported hearing at least seven explosions.

Near Moscow, multiple drones were intercepted before they could reach the capital. As a result of these incidents, Moscow airports imposed temporary flight restrictions.
