Russia plans 'victory' declaration in Ukraine war by February 2025

Russia is preparing to declare a purported "victory" in the war against Ukraine by February 24, 2025, marking the third anniversary of the large-scale invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin. This claim comes from the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service, as reported by Politico.

According to the Ukrainian source, Russian propagandists have been trained to spread "victorious" narratives on this symbolic date, aiming to sow distrust within Ukrainian society, destabilize the country, and discredit Ukraine’s allies as "enemies of peace." These actions are part of an information campaign promoted by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR).

In its post on Telegram, HUR highlights that the primary narratives of this campaign include slogans such as "The West has betrayed Ukraine," "Neither Moscow nor Washington cares about the views of Europeans and Ukrainians," and "The Ukrainian government is illegitimate." These messages have been promoted recently not only by the Kremlin but also by the White House.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him incompetent and a "dictator without elections" who misled the U.S. into spending billions of dollars in military aid.

HUR claims that Russia’s plans for 2025 may also include declaring a "victory over NATO," since Moscow’s propaganda has long framed the war against Ukraine as a conflict with the Western alliance. According to military intelligence reports, the Kremlin’s subsequent objective is to discredit Ukraine’s European partners, who are working to support Kyiv’s position in the context of ongoing Russian-American discussions. These discussions include a military aid package worth 6 billion euros.

Ukraine was invaded by Russia on February 24, 2022. Since the start of the war, Moldova has received the highest number of Ukrainian refugees per capita in Europe. In Moldova, refugees have benefited from social, medical, and educational assistance, as well as the opportunity to join the workforce.
