Moldova-Ukraine bridge: 2027 opening

Moldovan Ambassador to Ukraine, Valeriu Chiveri, stated on the "La 360 de grade" program that the Cosăuți-Iampoli bridge, which is being built over the Dniester River, is expected to become operational in mid-2027, provided work progresses smoothly, especially regarding bureaucratic hurdles.

The bridge will bypass the Transnistrian region and is estimated to shorten car travel time between Chișinău and Kyiv by up to five hours. According to the diplomat, this infrastructure project will benefit everyone, including residents of northern Moldova and the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine.

"The Cosăuți-Iampoli bridge is our largest joint infrastructure project with Ukraine," Chiveri said. "The project is finalized, though a few technical details remain to be worked out. This also involves allocating land on the Moldovan side for bridge access roads, border customs facilities, and other standard border crossing procedures.”

The bridge will connect eastern Moldova's road network to the trans-European network. Meanwhile, Moldova will develop the connecting road infrastructure on its side.

The estimated cost is $200 million, with a two-year implementation period. In June 2023, Ukraine and Moldova signed an agreement reiterating the need for this additional bridge. A previous agreement was signed in November 2021, and work began in early 2022 but was suspended due to the war.
