Hungarian company MET will continue supplying natural gas to the Transnistrian region
The Transnistrian region will keep receiving natural gas through the Hungarian firm MET, as Tiraspol announced the supply agreement extension. The self-proclaimed leader of Tiraspol, Vadim Krasnoselski, once again emphasized that this was made possible with Russia’s support. Meanwhile, the government in Chișinău stated that it does not endorse this solution but accepted it to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the Transnistrian region.
The self-proclaimed leader of Tiraspol announced that the gas supply mechanism for the region will continue operating but did not specify for how long. Meanwhile, the head of Moldovagaz, Vadim Ceban, stated that the agreement would remain in effect through March 2025 and that previous deliveries were made in full compliance with contractual obligations.
At the same time, Krasnoselski took the opportunity to thank the Russian Federation for its support. Previously, he claimed that the gas was purchased with the help of a Russian loan, although it is officially known that the gas supplied by MET is paid for by a company based in Dubai.
On the other hand, the authorities in Chișinău have reiterated that they do not support this solution but have accepted it to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe on the left bank of the Nistru.
Starting with February 14, MET Gas and Energy Marketing has been supplying natural gas to the Transnistrian region up to the border with the Republic of Moldova. From there, Moldovagaz delivers up to 3 million cubic meters per day to the left bank. The transit costs are paid in advance by Tiraspoltransgaz. This solution was adopted after the Transnistrian authorities rejected the European Union’s offer of 60 million euros to overcome the energy crisis.
