Challenges and opportunities of the labor market in the era of digital platforms and AI

The primary issue in the labor market in 2025 is the absence of clear regulations governing various activities conducted through digital platforms. This concern arises from the significant growth of such platforms both globally and nationally in recent years. Dorin Vaculovschi, expert in labor market and social policy issues, highlighted this during the Zi de zi show on Radio Moldova, particularly regarding information work.

According to him, these platforms often only supplement informal employment, which undermines the functionality of the labor market. From this perspective, such developments can lead to challenges related to the balanced growth of the labor market. Therefore, authorities should anticipate the emergence of these new types of activities and regulate them, as other countries have already done.

"It's not just about IT; it's also about providing various services through these digital platforms. In this context, we can discuss a wide range of activities, from delivering products to your home to taxi services and online consulting."

Also, one of the most discussed topics is the impact of artificial intelligence on jobs. Dorin Vaculovschi argues that the rapid advancement of AI generates not only risks regarding job loss but also opportunities, including the creation of new jobs.

"When it comes to AI, we can consider two types of impacts. The first is when AI replaces physical labor, potentially leading to layoffs within companies. The second involves the expansion of services from the information technology sector through digital work platforms."

AI is attracting increasing interest from both companies and the education system. Previously, Minister Dan Perciun mentioned on Radio Moldova that students will be taught how to use AI in their Computer Science classes to keep up with new technologies and the opportunities they present. Additionally, some rules for using AI will be implemented. Education specialists argue that schools must adapt to these changes while also informing students about the risks associated with new technologies.
