Kyiv hit by Russian missile attack, civilians injured and buildings destroyed

Three people were injured in a Russian airstrike launched overnight from Friday to Saturday against Kyiv.

Two of them, injured in the Darnytskyi district, were taken to the hospital. A business office building was partially destroyed and set on fire, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, reports The Kyiv Independent.

The flames also spread to a nearby furniture store and a warehouse, reported the State Emergency Service. Eight cars were damaged in the attack, and authorities reported fires in several areas of the Ukrainian capital.

The first explosions were heard around 2:12 a.m., followed by another wave of detonations at around 5:00 a.m. Debris from missiles fell on two buildings in uninhabited areas, according to official reports. Emergency and medical teams are working at several locations across the city.

In response to the massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine, Poland has mobilized its fighter jets and air defense systems, the Polish Armed Forces announced in a social media post.

Russia has routinely targeted civilian infrastructure since the start of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The United States is in talks with both Ukraine and Russia to negotiate an end to the war sparked by Moscow.

Ukraine has already accepted a U.S. proposal for a complete 30-day ceasefire, announcing on March 11 that it is ready if Russia accepts the terms. So far, Moscow has refused.
