18 dead in Russian missile strike on Krivoi Rog, including children

On Monday, Members of Parliament observed a minute of silence in honor of the victims of the missile attack launched by the Russian Federation on the Ukrainian city of Krivoi Rog, which resulted in the deaths of 18 people, including nine children.

The tragedy was strongly condemned by the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, who demanded that these war crimes not go unpunished.

The Speaker emphasized that Moldova remains in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and urged fellow MPs to “stand with peace and life.”

“Recently, a Russian missile destroyed an entire street in Krivoi Rog. Eighteen people were killed, including nine children: Timofei, 3; Radislav, 7; Arina, 7; Gherman, 9; Nikita, 15; Alina, 15; Danilo, 15; Constantin, 16; Nikita, 17. These individuals were killed solely because the Ukrainian people refuse to surrender their country and have been defending their freedom, future, and homeland for three years. We stand by our neighbors and have repeatedly called for these war crimes to be punished. Let us stand in solidarity, support one another, and stand for peace,” said Igor Grosu in the Parliament.

On Friday, April 4, the Russian military launched a missile attack on Krivoi Rog, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Eighteen people were killed, including nine children, and more than 70 residents were injured. The day before, four more people were killed in another missile attack on the same city, and more than ten others were injured.

On Sunday, April 6, a national day of mourning was declared across Ukraine. In Krivoy Rog, the days of mourning for the victims were scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday – April 7, 8, and 9.

The strike launched by the Russian military on Krivoi Rog is the deadliest attack resulting in children’s deaths since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, stated United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, in a statement issued on Sunday, April 6. According to him, a team from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) visited the site on April 5, where they documented the destruction and confirmed the identities of the nine children who lost their lives in the attack.
