MFA confirms: Moldovan citizens involved in car-train accident in Romania

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Moldova confirms that the citizens involved in the accident between a car and a train at Podu Iloaiei in Iași are Moldovan citizens. In this context, the authorities in Chișinău announce that the Consulate General of our country in Iași is in permanent contact with the Romanian authorities and with the relatives of the victims, offering all necessary consular assistance, including with regard to medical care and repatriation procedures.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and stands with the injured and their families," notes the cited source.
Also, the MFA announces that through its consular mission and the Consular Affairs Directorate, it will continue to follow the evolution of the situation and will come up with information.
Moldovan-registered car in serious Iași train crash: one woman dies, two men injured
A woman died and two men were seriously injured on Friday evening after the car they were in was hit by a train in the town of Podu Iloaiei, Iași. According to Romanian media, the car involved in the accident was registered in the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Iaşi Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU), a water and foam intervention and extinguishing vehicle, an extrication vehicle, a qualified first aid ambulance, a mobile intensive care ambulance and a medical team from the Iaşi Emergency Medical Service were urgently dispatched to the scene of the accident.
"When the intervention forces arrived at the scene , two victims were incarcerated, and one was evacuated. The two victims were extricated and the resuscitation protocol was started," informs the quoted source.
A 57-year-old man was transported to the hospital, as was the 20-year-old driver, who was resuscitated and intubated. A 53-year-old woman, a passenger in the back, did not respond to resuscitation maneuvers and died.
According to the ISU, there were 11 passengers on the train, who did not require medical attention.
