Lavrov declares that the Republic of Moldova "would follow the path of Ukraine". MAEIE: "This is part of the threatening rhetoric of Russian diplomacy"

The Republic of Moldova would follow the path of Ukraine and has a president who wants to join NATO, said in an interview for the Russian media, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov. In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau reminds the Russian side that the path taken by the Republic of Moldova is the path of accession to the European Union, this being a country project supported by the citizens.

According to Lavrov, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, "wants to unite with Romania and join the North Atlantic Alliance". "We categorically reject the statements of the head of Russian diplomacy that do not meet the truth and are part of the already well-known threatening rhetoric of Russian diplomacy," replied the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Daniel Vodă. "Moldova as a state and Moldovans regardless of political or geopolitical preferences want Peace, Freedom and Democracy. We will appreciate that all countries of the world, including the Russian Federation, respect the decision of our people. The Republic of Moldova has clearly chosen its future, and this future is part of the free world," Daniel Vodă emphasized. In the same interview, Lavrov said the West is lying about Russia's refusal to negotiate on the Ukraine issue and that it is trying to turn Moldova, Georgia and the former Soviet republics against Moscow. We remind you that President Maia Sandu has repeatedly spoken in favor of a victory for Ukraine over Russia. Recently, the head of state told the Politico publication that, in the context of the war in Ukraine, a "serious discussion" is taking place in Chisinau about the opportunity to renounce the neutrality enshrined in the Constitution and yp join "a wider military alliance", without to give, however, the name of a concrete alliance. Maia Sandu also said that our country remains extremely "vulnerable" and is subject to the Russian hybrid war through propaganda and disinformation. But for now, they face no military threats thanks to Ukrainian courage and resilience.
