All Chisinau residents have water supply, municipal authorities claim
Chisinau residents all have water at their taps, and teams of technicians are currently in the field to check whether the water distribution network has not suffered after Thursday's disconnection of "Apă-Canal Chișinău" control points from electricity. Irina Gutnic, deputy mayor of the capital in charge of housing and municipal affairs, revealed information about this.
"So, at the moment, all residents have a water supply. The technical teams are verifying all the consumption points, if there are any disturbances, leaks, if the network has not been affected. There have been some breakdowns inside the block, some lighting fixtures have broken down, some appliances, insignificant, but it has an impact anyway. We are restoring now," said Irina Gutnic.
On Thursday, February 2, Premier Energy cut off the electricity supply to several control points and the administrative block of "Apă-Canal Chișinău".
The company has been reconnected to electricity power until Tuesday, February 7. A decision to this effect was taken on Thursday evening after discussions involving representatives of "Apă-Canal Chisinau" and Premier Energy.
Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban said that residents could be left without water due to the disconnection of "Apă-Canal Chisinau" from electricity. In November, the Chisinau City Council voted to increase water and sewage tariffs from 11 lei to about 23 lei. But the National Agency for Energy Regulation approved a much smaller increase in tariffs.
In the meantime, the electricity supplier has disconnected several offices of "Apă-Canal Chișinău" and announced that it will continue the disconnections because of debts of about 69 million lei.
