Moscow talks: Iran, Russia after US attacks

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced Sunday that he is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday, following American attacks on Iran, DW reports.

"This afternoon I'm departing for Moscow," AFP and Associated Press quoted him as saying. According to the minister, he intends to hold "serious consultations with the Russian President" on Monday, June 23. "We have a strategic partnership, and we always consult each other and coordinate our positions," Araghchi said regarding relations between Tehran and Moscow.

Russia strongly condemned the American attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities Sunday, denouncing the "irresponsible" bombings against its key Middle Eastern ally.

"The irresponsible decision to launch missile and bomb attacks on the territory of a sovereign state, regardless of the arguments invoked, flagrantly violates international law," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release, Agerpres reported.

"We call for an end to the aggression and for increased efforts to create conditions for the situation to return to a political and diplomatic path," the ministry declared.

The United States attacked three Iranian nuclear sites—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—last night. The announcement was made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said the American military's attack was "a success." It's unclear whether the U.S. will continue to actively participate in Israel's offensive, which is in its ninth day of war with Iran.

President Trump acted without congressional approval and warned that further attacks would follow if Iran retaliated against American forces. There are currently no independent assessments of the damage.
