Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria: Approximately 8,100 people have died

More than 8,100 people have died in devastating earthquakes on the Turkish-Syrian border, Agerpres reports.

Deputy President Fuat Otkay announced that the death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey rose to 5,894 and the number of injured exceeded 34,000.

Some 5,775 buildings collapsed in Monday's earthquakes.

In Syria, 2,270 people have lost their lives, according to data provided by the Ministry of Health and the White Helmets rescue organisation, which keep the death toll in regions controlled by the Damascus government and those controlled by the opposition.
