Chisinau gives up the monthly amount of gas from Gazprom, in exchange for cheaper energy from Cuciurgan

"Energocom" signed a contract with the Cuciurgan plant for the supply of electricity in December at the price of 73 USD/MWh for "Moldovagaz ” will deliver 5.7 million cubic metres of gas per day to the left bank, and the right bank will use gas from accumulated stocks.

The announcement was made on Saturday, December 3, by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, who specified that the option of extending the contract for the period January - March 2023 will be analyzed in order to provide the whole country with electricity.

Thus, in December, we will receive 200 thousand MW from the left side of the Dniester, and together with the bilateral contracts in Romania, this amount is sufficient to ensure the right bank with electricity in full volume. Therefore, by signing this contract, the risk of massive disconnections from electricity is reduced. We are doing our best to keep the country connected.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, following these decisions, citizens will pay less for electricity, CSE and ANRE will decide on the reduction of the electricity tariff.

"This contract is a reasonable compromise to ensure the citizens on both banks of the Dniester with electricity and gas. The right bank will use the gas from the reserve we have accumulated. For the first time, the right bank is no longer dependent on the gas delivered by "Gazprom", Andrei Spînu mentioned.

According to Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, our country has a reserve of 230 million cubic metres of gas, a sufficient amount for two winter months.

TRM.MD recalls that the Cuciurgan Power Plant stopped supplying electricity to the authorities on the right bank of the Dniester from November 1, after Gazprom reduced gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova and, as a consequence, "Moldovagaz" reduced the supplies distributed to the left bank of the the Dniester.
