EU remains Moldova’s main export market

In August 2025, exports of goods totaled 332.6 million US dollars. This figure shows a 4.2% decrease compared to July but a 22% increase compared to August 2024, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The European Union remains the primary destination for Moldovan products, accounting for 67.5% of total exports, a slight increase from the previous year.
In the first eight months of the year, total exports amounted to $2.28 billion, representing a 2.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
Exports of domestic goods increased slightly (+0.6%) and reached almost 78% of the total.
The European Union countries continue to be the main trading partners of the Republic of Moldova, with exports of $1.54 billion (+0.2% compared to 2024).
In contrast, deliveries to CIS countries decreased by almost 20%, totalling $143.4 million.
Main destinations and exported products
Romania remains the most critical trading partner, with a share of 29.6% of total exports, followed by Italy and Turkey - 9.4% each, the Czech Republic - 8.6%, Ukraine - 7.9% and Germany - 3.6%.
While deliveries to Romania, Ukraine and Germany recorded significant decreases, exports to Turkey and the Czech Republic increased by over 50%, partially offsetting losses from other markets.

The primary categories of exported products from Moldova include machinery and electrical appliances, oilseeds, various fruits, vegetables, cereals, and clothing. However, there has been a decrease in exports of vegetable oils, petroleum products, and cereals.
Most Moldovan goods are transported by road, accounting for 80% of total exports. This is followed by sea transport at 14.7% and rail transport at 2.8%.
