ANRE nears completion of technical procedures required to reduce gas tariffs

The new natural gas tariffs are expected to be announced in January 2026. The clarifications were made on December 11 by the director of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), Alexei Taran, at the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee for Economy, Budget and Finance.

According to him, ANRE is nearing the completion of the technical process required to reduce gas tariffs.

"Currently, we have approved the investments for 2025 and are in the process of analyzing the investment plan and basic costs for 2026. These two elements are essential components of the regulated price structure. We estimate that we will finalize and approve these costs in early January. After that, Energocom will promptly submit its request. We have all the necessary structures approved, and the agency will do everything required to ensure that we can approve the new prices as urgently and quickly as possible," declared Alexei Taran.

On December 1, Energocom submitted the necessary documents to the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) to establish the basic costs included in the regulated natural gas tariff.

Alexandru Slusari, a member of Energocom's Board of Directors, previously announced that natural gas tariffs could be reduced by over 10% starting in the second half of December. This forecast is based on the weighted average purchase price for the cold season.

Recently, Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu stated on the show "IN CONTEXT" on Moldova 1 that Energocom would present calculations to the ANRE in December to analyze a potential change in the natural gas tariff. However, any new tariffs would not take effect until the beginning of next year.

We remind you that since September 2025, Energocom has been the national supplier of natural gas following the revocation of Moldovagaz's license for non-compliance with the activity separation requirements. Currently, consumers pay a tariff of 16 lei and 74 bani per cubic meter, including VAT. The last price change occurred in December 2024, when ANRE approved an increase of 3 lei and 16 bani per cubic meter, which represented a rise of over 27%.
