Denmark increases support for Moldova’s European integration by €2.8 million, earmarked for justice reform

Funding for the Republic of Moldova under the "Support for EU Integration" program will be increased by €2.8 million, thanks to a contribution from the Kingdom of Denmark. An amendment approved by the government on December 23 has raised the total budget for this initiative to €27.8 million.
The Minister of Justice, Vladislav Cojuhari, highlighted that the Kingdom of Denmark is providing technical assistance to facilitate justice reform.
"This support includes financing specialized expertise for public authorities over the medium and long term. Specifically, it focuses on justice reform, including digitalization processes, as well as enhancing the integrity, efficiency, and professionalism of individuals within the judicial system," emphasized Vladislav Cojuhari.
The amendment approved by the Government pertains to the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Commission regarding the "Support for EU Integration" program, which was signed in Chisinau on November 28, 2024.
We remind you that the seventh edition of the "Justice Reform and Combating Corruption" Forum, held in Chisinau on December 16, indicated that justice reform in the Republic of Moldova is at a critical juncture. Authorities and experts identified the continuation of the evaluation of judges and prosecutors, the expedited handling of corruption cases, and the digitalization of the system as key priorities.
According to Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, without a credible judiciary, the Republic of Moldova cannot aspire to a European future or achieve sustainable economic development. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the authorities' commitment to complete the extraordinary evaluation process, fill vacant positions, accelerate the processing of corruption cases, digitalize the justice system, and establish clearer delineations of responsibilities along with more efficient coordination among institutions.
Denmark stands as a key donor and supporter of Moldova's European aspirations. During his visit to Chisinau in July, Danish Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen announced a financial commitment of €7 million to enhance the security and defense capacities of Moldova over the next four years. These funds will be allocated to essential areas of national defense, including military training, education, equipment donations, countering hybrid warfare, and cybersecurity.
