Maia Sandu and global envoys rally behind Moldova’s resilience this Christmas

High-ranking officials in Moldova and international partners delivered Christmas greetings today. They shared wishes for peace, health, and national unity. The messages focused on both spiritual traditions and the country's goals for the coming year.
Presidential and parliamentary greetings
President Maia Sandu greeted citizens through a symbolic video message. Appearing alongside children while decorating the Christmas tree, the head of state offered a simple, heartfelt wish: "Merry Christmas!"
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu urged citizens to welcome the holiday with gratitude. He encouraged people to cherish their loved ones. "Wherever this magic holiday finds you, I invite you to be grateful for life and health," Grosu stated.
The Cabinet’s commitment to the future
Members of the Cabinet of Ministers also released joint greetings. Their messages covered sectors from the economy to security and energy.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized the government's commitment to the people. "We wish you happy winter holidays filled with peace, hope, and confidence in the future," Munteanu said.
Support from the European Union and United States
EU Ambassador to Moldova, Iwona Piórko, praised the country’s progress in 2025. She highlighted the determination of citizens to follow the European path. "We, the European Union, want the best for you and your families," Piórko noted, wishing for further development in the year ahead.
The United States Embassy also shared a festive message. Nick Pietrowicz, Chargé d’Affaires, reflected on shared values of faith and freedom. He noted that both nations would mark significant anniversaries in the coming year, strengthening their partnership.
A day of celebration
On December 25, Christians in Moldova celebrate the Nativity according to the Gregorian calendar. Believers attended Christmas liturgy early this morning.
Families across the country are now opening their homes to relatives. They are gathering around festive tables to celebrate one of Christianity's most significant holidays.
