Blizzard, heavy snow and extreme winds grip Romania until Monday

Meteorologists have issued a new extreme weather warning for areas in 11 counties, valid from Sunday until Monday, 10:00 a.m. At the same time, the weather forecast has been updated, with almost the entire country under weather alerts, Hotnews.ro reports.
A red code alert for sleet and snow was issued for the mountainous regions of the Southern and Curvature Carpathians.
At altitudes above 1,700 meters, snowfall will be accompanied by very strong winds, with gusts exceeding 120 km/h, which will reduce visibility to almost zero, according to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).
Additionally, a yellow code for adverse weather conditions will remain in effect until Monday morning at 10:00 AM. The ANM forecasts sleet and snow in Maramureș, Transylvania, Moldova, Dobrogea, and the mountainous areas, with visibility temporarily dropping below 100 meters.
Meteorologists have also extended the yellow code for strong winds until Monday evening, although the number of affected counties has been reduced.
Until Monday at 11:00 PM, regions including Moldova, Dobrogea, southern and western Oltenia, and southeastern Transylvania will experience wind intensifications with speeds ranging from 50 to 70 km/h.
In the Southern and Curvature Carpathians, wind speeds will reach 60 to 85 km/h, and at altitudes over 1,700 meters, gusts may reach 90 to 120 km/h, causing drifting snow and further reducing visibility.
