Logistics crisis averted in Dubasari district as authorities monitor essential supply lines

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri conducted an emergency inspection of the Cocieri plateau on January 21, assuring residents that basic supplies remain stable despite the Nistru River freezing over.
The official met with local mayors in Molovata Nouă, Corjova, and Cocieri to address the logistical isolation caused by the suspension of the Molovata ferry. This vessel serves as the primary lifeline for food and medicine deliveries to the region.
Freezing conditions halt essential transit
The ferry service, a critical link between the two banks of the Nistru, has been suspended since January 14. Thick ice layers have made navigation impossible, cutting off the standard route for commercial suppliers.
While individual citizens can still cross through Transnistrian-controlled checkpoints, commercial vehicles distributing food are restricted from these routes. Local mayors previously warned that public institutions had only a few days of food reserves remaining.
Government intervention and diplomatic efforts
"We are here to assess the situation firsthand," Chiveri stated. "While the ice has created challenges for delivering essential goods, I can confirm that the situation is currently under control and monitored."
Citizens are currently advised to use the "Criuleni 18" internal control post as an alternative, located 32 kilometers away. However, this route remains problematic for heavy logistics and commercial entities.
Ongoing monitoring of the plateau
The Reintegration Bureau is coordinating with local administrations to respond to any emerging emergencies. Efforts are also being made through the Unified Control Commission and "1+1" negotiation channels to ensure continued freedom of movement.
Authorities remain on high alert to intervene if food shortages escalate before the river thaws.
