Chisinau and Warsaw forge strategic defense partnership to counter hybrid risks

Moldova’s Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi met with his Polish counterpart, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, in Warsaw on January 26 to initiate a new bilateral defense agreement.
The proposed intergovernmental accord aims to modernize the existing legal framework to better address the current security challenges in Eastern Europe. The discussions took place during President Maia Sandu's official visit to Poland.
The strategic impact
Both officials emphasized the need to deepen military cooperation in response to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and the surge in hybrid threats.
Poland has committed to continuing its support for the Moldovan National Army through advanced professional training and the modernization of defense education. This partnership is viewed as a critical component of Moldova’s broader democratic reforms and its path toward European integration.
Technical context and resilience
The meeting concluded with a commitment to launch new projects designed to bolster Moldova’s national resilience.
These initiatives will focus on technical defense modernization and strategic alignment with international partners. By upgrading their defense cooperation, Chisinau and Warsaw aim to stabilize the regional security architecture against external interference.
