Moldova secures national heritage via cloud-based e-Arhiva integration

The Government of Moldova approved the "e-Arhiva" information system framework during its session on January 28. This move marks a definitive transition from physical paper storage to a centralized digital infrastructure.

Justice Minister Vladislav Cojuhari emphasized that the system will bridge a critical gap. Currently, public institutions generate digital documents but lack a unified platform to transfer them to the National Archives Agency.

Securing National Data Integrity

The new system aims to eliminate data vulnerability and the physical degradation of records. By creating digital duplicates, the state ensures the long-term protection of original historical and administrative documents.

This initiative follows the recent launch of the Electronic Register of Successions and Wills. Minister Cojuhari noted that these steps are part of a broader effort to provide citizens with faster, more transparent public services.

A 15-Year Digital Transformation

The technical administration of e-Arhiva will be handled by the Information Technology and Cyber Security Service. Meanwhile, the National Archives Agency will oversee the storage of the Republic of Moldova's Archival Fund.

This project is a pillar of the 2023–2030 Digital Transformation Strategy. It aligns with Moldova’s EU integration goals, aiming for a fully modern, paperless public administration by the end of the decade.

Since 2010, Moldova has invested $46 million (approx. €42.5 million) in government modernization. The e-Arhiva system represents the next phase in this 15-year journey toward a high-tech, transparent state.
