ANSA announces outbreaks of rabies and African swine fever in Dondușeni, Hincești, Leova and Chișinău

Sanitary-veterinary alert in the Dondușeni district: three rabies outbreaks were confirmed in the village of Boroseni, affecting a dog, a cow, and a fox, according to the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA).
A new case of rabies in a dog has been reported in the Cărpineni locality of the Hîncești district.
Additionally, new outbreaks of African swine fever have been detected: one in a wild boar in Sărata-Rezeși village, Leova district, and another in domestic pigs in the town of Sîngera, located in the Chișinău municipality.
The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) made this information public, covering the period from February 11 to February 23.
During this same timeframe, ANSA reported that three outbreaks of African swine fever have been eliminated, while four others are nearly eradicated.
ANSA specialists recommend that anyone who has been bitten or has come into contact with an animal's saliva should immediately wash the wound thoroughly with plenty of water and soap and seek urgent medical attention at the nearest health facility.
Citizens are also urged not to buy animals without veterinary certificates and to avoid purchasing food products from unauthorized sources or from neighboring countries intended for introduction into the Republic of Moldova.
"Meat products will be confiscated and destroyed due to the risks they pose," warns ANSA.
The agency also reminds the public that rewards of 50 euros are offered for reporting the sighting of wild boar carcasses. According to ANSA, six individuals have already received such rewards in 2025.
