Six-month sentence for Andronache challenged by prosecutor

Prosecutors have contested the decision to sentence Ion Andronache, the accomplice of the former mayor of Boldureşti in the Nisporeni district, to just two years in prison, of which only six months would be served due to a partially suspended sentence. The prosecutors argue that this sentence is too lenient and are seeking the maximum penalty of three years in prison with execution.
According to prosecutors, Ion Andronache helped Nicanor Ciochină conceal the details of a road accident that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old child. Specifically, Andronache altered the license plate of the car involved in the accident, attaching it to another vehicle of the same model to mislead the investigation.
During the court proceedings, Andronache's accomplice described how, after changing the license plates, Ciochină took pictures of the modified car and sent them to both the police in Nisporeni and his wife. This was done to convince them that his vehicle was undamaged and that he had not fatally injured the child.
As a result of his actions, Ion Andronache is currently in prison, alongside former Boldurești mayor Nicanor Ciochină, who was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The tragic incident that led to the conviction of Ciochină occurred on the evening of February 19, 2024, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on a local road in the commune. According to case file materials, Mihai Beșliu, a 14-year-old teenager, was walking along the side of the road when he was struck by a car. The impact was fatal, and the child died at the scene.
Prosecutors asserted during the trial that Nicanor Ciochină was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. After the incident, he allegedly left the scene without providing assistance to the victim or notifying the authorities, which is considered an aggravating circumstance in the case.
The victim's mother, Raisa Ciurel, attended the court hearings regularly. In her statements before the court and in public, she called for a strong punishment, expressing her desire for "justice for Mihăiță."
We remind you that former mayor Nicanor Ciochină was sentenced to seven years in an open-type penitentiary on February 27, 2026, for his role in the February 2024 road accident.
