The procedure for crossing the state border will be simplified for EU citizens
Members of diplomatic missions, consular offices and representations of international organisations accredited in our country, as well as members of their families will be exempted from the visa requirement when crossing the state border of the Republic of Moldova. A decision to this effect was taken today by deputies.
Visa-free travel to the Republic of Moldova will also be granted to holders of travel documents issued by the Council of Europe, the European Union, the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
"The new regulations also seek to facilitate the documentation of citizens of European Union states by excluding the obligation to present means of maintenance and medical insurance for granting a temporary right of residence in our country, as well as granting the right of residence for a period of five years," a Parliament press release said.
A further facility concerns the deadline for submitting and examining the application for granting/extending the right of residence, which is 15 calendar days. These facilities are determined by the Republic of Moldova's obtaining the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union.
The document also proposes an exemption from the procedure for obtaining an invitation for granting an entry/exit visa for foreigners holding a residence permit or a valid visa (except transit visas) issued by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the USA and Canada.
